### Draggable item selection type

# Draggable item selection type

The teacher can choose from three types of item selection. This setting controls the items displayed to students, that is, all the items or a subset of the items.

The three item selection types are:

- Select all items
- Select a random subset of items
- Select a contiguous subset of items

The "Item selection type" is selected in the question's settings.

**Note:**All the grading types can be used with any of the item selection types.## Select all items

With

**Select all items**, all draggable items defined in the settings are displayed to students. The examples on the previous page (Layout of items) are done with the**Item selection type**set to**Select all items**.## Select a random subset of items

With

**Select a random subset of items**, only a random subset of items defined in the settings are displayed to students. The size of the subset, that is the number of items in the subset, is defined in the following setting,**Size of subset**. The items of the subset are chosen at random.### Example

Define the following set of 10 draggable items: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J. Set the

**Item selection type**to**Select a random subset of items**and set the**Size of subset**to 4. Use the**Absolute position**grading type.#### Explanation

Of the 10 draggable items, 4 are randomly selected. With the

**Absolute position**grading type, items score 100% if placed in the correct position and 0% if placed in a wrong position.## Select a contiguous subset of items

With

**Select a random subset of items**, only a random subset of*contiguous*items defined in the settings are displayed to students. The size of the subset, that is the number of items in the subset, is defined in the following setting,**Size of subset**. The subset of contiguous items is chosen at random.### Example

Define the following set of 10 draggable items: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J. Set the

**Item selection type**to**Select a contiguous subset of items**and set the**Size of subset**to 4. Use the**Absolute position**grading type.#### Explanation

Of the 10 draggable items, a random subset of 4 contiguous items is selected. With the

**Absolute position**grading type, items score 100% if placed in the correct position and 0% if placed in a wrong position.
